About Me

This is me! Thanks for stopping by my website. I’m a Digital Communication Executive for Glasgow Science Centre and Glasgow City of Science.

As you can probably guess from that, I love science communication and digital communications! Pretty lucky then that I can combine these into my work 🙂

Dig a little deeper…

When he was younger, Derek used to dream about following in the footsteps of David Attenborough and making documentaries about wildlife in far-flung corners of the globe. He ended up working in radio broadcasting, spinning country music radio tracks after gaining his BSc Science Studies from University of Strathclyde, before a triumphant move into the wonderful world of science communication. After more than 10 years at Glasgow Science Centre he’s pretty chuffed with himself having helped countless people engage in fun and thought provoking science experiences. He’s trained many others following a similar path and is now navigating the digital jungle and supporting the Glasgow City of Science mission to get the city and the West of Scotland on the map for science. In the future he’ll travel into space to view the planet from afar. He still dreams.
