7th March: Last Quarter
15th March: New Moon
23rd March: First Quarter
30th March: Full Moon

It’s getting towards that time of year when the dark, rich winter skies start to move on to the slightly more sparse springtime view out of the plane of our Milky Way Galaxy and into a region with fewer stars.

It’s the March equinox on the 20th of this month (at around 5.30pm GMT that evening). That means the Earth’s axis is tilted neither away from nor towards the Sun, such that the Sun is above a point directly above the equator. The length of ‘night’, therefore, is the same at similar latitudes both in the Northern and Southern hemispheres.
