I was fortunate enough to be invited to the opening gala night of Cineworld IMAX at Glasgow Science Centre and a screening of the critically acclaimed film, Gravity (due for general release in the UK on 8th November 2013).
Wow! What an incredible experience! Stunning visual clarity, astounding 3D across a simply, massive screen. What’s more the movie was a captivating, intense journey high above the Earth.
Directed by Alfonso Cuarón, Gravity stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as astronauts on a routine space walk that quickly turns into a disaster when debris destroys their shuttle and leaves them alone and drifting in space.
This tense thriller becomes ever more engaging as their situation spirals out-of-control. The physics is, for the most part, spot on too (Read Phil Plait’s review which highlights some of the issues with the science ) with incredible efforts made to ensure the movie was realistic (View NASA’s ‘Space Station Work Serves As Film’s Dramatic Backdrop’).
My recommendation… Go see Gravity in IMAX 3D! It’s breathtaking and beautiful. Bullock is out-of-this-world sensational as she leads us through a personal and lonely journey. Clooney is like a charming Buzz Lightyear and one guy you’d definitely want out there with you if you ever find yourself in space!
