Derek Shirlaw

I'm a Senior Science Communicator at the internationally renowned Glasgow Science Centre.

What does that mean? Well, I get to make Science exciting; explaining simple and more complex concepts to people of all ages in ways that allow them to understand the World around them.

I host workshops and labs that facilitate learning through fun. Sometimes I even get to be a puppet-master - teaching younger children about the Science of force through the highly visual and amazingly entertaining medium of a puppet show.

Just as rewarding is that I get to train others to do the same. I'm involved in developing new projects and making sure that what we do is inspiring, exciting and lot's of fun!

So, I've set up this website to share some more Science with the World - hope you enjoy it!

48% of the World’s primates species are threatened with extinction according to the IUCN Red List which highlights habitat loss, hunting and the illegal trade of wildlife as prime factors in the demise of some of our closest relatives in the animal kingdom.
